30 Days of Poetry, 2018

One a day, added throughout April.

First day of April:
the sky, like an empty book,
and the scribbling trees.  1/30

Snow on daffodils—
delicious melancholy.
Press on that sore tooth. 2/30

April afternoon:
the daffodils are shrieking
their terrible news.
3/30

O sweet-faced demon,
your many countenances
unhinge my desire.
5/30

“ribbon of highway”
I hear the crinkling roadmap
folding, unfolding
6/30

ocean of crocus
pale bright waves of daffodil
and the buoyant wind
7/30

Notification:
lone goose crossing overhead—
a shadowless day
8/30

It’s forsythia
and fortunately for me
free for the looking.
9/30

Winter’s gone at last:
The woodpecker wakes me up
An hour before dawn
10/30

Assiduous, o
Deciduous azaleas
sedulous sedum
11/30

In the soul’s garden
the viola sings gospel
mmhmm, mmhhm, lord
12/30

Friday the 13th:
up and down the avenue
everyone’s nervous
13/30

Blossom festival:
ecstatic photographers
are blocking our view!
14/30

Cheery no-cheery cheer—
I are especially taxed,
quoth the robins.
15/30 (who says you cannot pun in a haiku?)
